1992–1996•8 cyl•Продольное•Aluminium / Aluminium
The BMW M60 is a naturally aspirated V8 gasoline engine produced from 1992 to 1996. It was BMW's first modern, mainstream V8, famous for its lightweight aluminum block, exceptional smoothness, and reliability. It was primarily utilized in the E32 7 Series, E34 5 Series, and E38 7 Series.
Особенности
- Valvetrain: Double Overhead Camshafts (DOHC) with 4 valves per cylinder and hydraulic lash adjusters to minimize maintenance.
- Lightweight Materials: Cast from aluminum alloy with magnesium valve covers and a weight-saving plastic intake manifold.
- Fractured Connecting Rods: The M60 was the first BMW engine to use a "split conrod" fractured design, where the rods are cracked in half to guarantee increased rigidity and an exact fit.
- Ignition & Fuel: Features a coil-on-plug ignition system controlled by the Bosch Motronic 3.3 management system with integrated knock sensors.
- Bore Linings: Utilizes a durable, but historically sensitive, nickel-silicon carbide (Nikasil) coating on the cylinder bores.
